GOOD NEWS - June 2nd
We start this week's bulletin with some fantastic news!
It's with great pleasure we can share with you that Healthier Fleetwood has received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service for 2022.
Following the nomination and review process which began almost a year ago, we accept this prestigious award, on behalf of the many, many voluntary groups and volunteers across Fleetwood who give up their time and energy to support others, creating a vibrant, inspiring, compassionate and strong community. Over the next couple of weeks, we look forward to working with the Awards' committee to share some of the amazing stories from the Fleetwood community with a national audience.
In the meantime, a huge thank you to the individuals and organisations who supported our nomination and to all the amazing volunteers in Fleetwood for everything they do ...
... this is your award.
And 'thank you' is the theme of this year's National Volunteers Week.
Volunteers are often unseen and unrecognised however the pandemic has quite rightly raised the profile of volunteering in our society we are now more aware of the immense contribution being made every single day by these dedicated and caring individuals. The incredible volunteers of Fleetwood Together are a perfect example. Fr. And one of the Fleetwood Social Prescribers is local resident Adam Diver who is taking on a huge challenge of his own this Summer. On the 22nd July, Adam will attempt to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records by swimming from mainland UK, to the Isle of Man taking on the tides and currents, the weather and wildlife like lion head jellyfish.
Why? Well, it's not been done before, it's to raise awareness of Mental Health in society and to collect samples of the Irish Sea water for scientific research. As an ex-serviceman, Adam is being supported by the Fylde Coast Veterans and community groups, and funds raised will go to the Healthier Heroes charity.
Adam, who is also a GB International triathlete, can often be seen training in the sea or Fleetwood Promenade lake and you can follow his progress through the Big Swim to the Isle of Man page on Facebook or look out for coverage on regional television. We wish Adam all the best in his preparations and calm seas on the day!
