GOOD NEWS - 6th July
This week marks the 75th Anniversary of the NHS. and it's been an opportunity to celebrate and thank the amazing, caring and dedicated staff who make up the service locally and across the Country.
There are many great community activities and events taking place to support the occasion and one is this week's parkrun. If you've been thinking of trying out the Fleetwood Promenade parkrun, Saturday 8th July is the perfect opportunity. It's great fun being involved as a runner/jogger/walker or as a volunteer and this week everyone is encouraged to wear blue to show support for the NHS. To find out more about the local event and register for free to take part visit the Fleetwood Promenade parkrun website.
And as part of the media coverage for the anniversary, BBC North West were in Fleetwood recently to hear the experiences and thoughts of residents about the NHS, including meeting the members of Harmony & Health. If you missed the feature at the time, you can watch it now on the BBC iPlayer.
Thank you to the local residents who make up the Fleetwood Surgery Patient Participation Group (PPG).
Following a recent visit by staff from the local NHS to Charles Saer School highlighting the dangers of skin cancer, the PPG raised funds through a cake-bake to provide a sunscreen dispenser for the children - great work everyone!
Healthier Fleetwood has an extra member of the team this week, Daisy a Year 10 student at Fleetwood High School joined us for her work experience placement.
During her time, she's been helping to update the posters and leaflets in our Information Centre, using her creativity as part of an upcoming project and meeting some of the residents, groups and partner organisations from the community. We've also chatted about what's important to young people living in Fleetwood and looking to the future. Daisy said, "I wanted to come to Healthier Fleetwood because I had heard about the way they work, supporting people to try something new and improve their confidence. I wanted to be part of this even if it was just for a week, to help our community and our Town." It's been a pleasure working with Daisy this week, she's a credit to her family and the young people in Fleetwood and we wish her well in her studies and beyond.
