GOOD NEWS - 29th May
We try to keep in touch with as many of the groups in the Fleetwood community as possible, and it's always great to hear from one of them with Good News to share!
Thank you to Sean McGann at Fleetwood Gym Boxing for getting in touch and telling us how well the club is doing and the great work they do supporting local residents' wellbeing. There can't be many clubs busier than Fleetwood Gym at the moment with well over 100 youngsters regularly attending training sessions and 45 for the beginners class last week!
They have boxers competing throughout the year, some of them internationally - 1 recently came back from a tournament in Sweden with a Gold Medal. In the last week members had bouts in Manchester and also in Ireland for the North West regional team. All the coaches are dedicated, supportive volunteers including an England National Coach. They work with youngsters from the 'Tiny Tysons' 5-9 years age group up to seniors ... boys & girls, men & ladies and the club also offer personal training opportunities.
Boxing may not be for everyone but as well as the obvious benefits to physical health it also encourages self-confidence and resilience, rewarding all the hard work and discipline involved.
> See the Fleetwood Gym Boxing page on Facebook for much more information or visit the Club's website
There's lots of Good News coming soon about Fleetwood's new Youth Hub in the former hospital building.
See and hear more at the Fleetwood Trust AGM which will take place in the newly created space on June 20th. Please follow their Facebook page for more details of the AGM, the latest updates on the Youth Hub and other community-focused projects.
With a new month approaching, there's also new listings to share ...

Printed copies of both listings are available to pick up from our Information Centre on Lord Street.
We're delighted to support an initiative from Fleetwood Town Community Trust and take donations of sports clothing in good condition. Items such as trainers, football boots and shin pads can be left with us, to be passed on to residents and community groups, encouraging more participation in sports and exercise. Drop off to the Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre at 1-7 Lord Street (opposite St Peter's Church) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 3pm.
And this week we have worked with local resident Helen to launch Fleetwood's first-ever Camerados drop-in morning.
If you are not familiar with the Camerados concept, it's about setting up 'public living-rooms'. These are places where people can meet for friendly conversation, a brew, maybe to play board games and to share what's happening in their community. There's already a fantastic network of coffee morning and friendship groups, the difference is public living rooms could pop up anywhere in the community.
We're supporting Helen while she gets the idea established and the new session on Tuesdays works well alongside the Armed Forces drop-in. She's already talking to other venues and events so look out for her and say hello! If you'd like to volunteer to help, please contact us at Healthier Fleetwood and we can put you in touch with Helen.
Speaking of volunteering, it is National Volunteers week from 3rd to 9th June!
We'll be using one of the windows at our Information Centre to share some of the local volunteering opportunities. If you are a group or event organiser and have a poster in A4 portrait format, please email listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk and we can print a copy for display. If you don't have a poster, send your information and contact details and we'll create one.
