GOOD News: 29th January
Fleetwood’s COVID vaccination centre opened last weekend and with the preparations and hard work of the staff and volunteers ran very smoothly.
Along with the jabs given at other venues over 2,500 residents registered with our three GP surgeries have now been vaccinated and all of the Town's care home residents too, a fantastic effort by all those involved!
The centre is open again this weekend with invitations continuing to be issued by NHS England in line with the priority categories set by the Government. Please do wait until it is your turn and not contact the surgeries. For all COVID inquiries contact the national helpline number 119.
Congratulations to BBC Radio Lancashire who this week celebrated 50 years of entertaining and informing the Red Rose County!
Healthier Fleetwood is delighted to have put several community groups in touch with presenters and reporters at the station, helping them to connect with a wider audience, share their great work and ask for support.
This week the wonderful Karen and Margaret spoke with Graham Liver about ‘Jars of Joy’ and sang along to a Nat King Cole classic, making such an impression they have an invitation to return!
Congratulations are also due to the community-spirited and creative local residents behind Fleetwood Love My Alleyway that has seen previously unloved areas transformed into safe, social spaces.
The project has been nominated for a Keep Britain Tidy Network award and you are invited to watch the virtual ceremony via You Tube on Wednesday 3rd February from 5pm.
The project has been supported by a number of organisations including Wyre Council’s Cleaner Greener team.
If you have access to a garden or back yard, or can get out to safely enjoy the open spaces this weekend, why not get involved with the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
This annual event is the world’s largest bird survey and only takes an hour any day today, Saturday or Sunday. It’s a great thing to do as a family and helps to monitor changes in wildlife behaviour and numbers. Everything you need to know plus some downloadable fun activities is on the RSPB website.
A further round of funding is available to voluntary sector groups with COVID-19 support projects, thanks to a partnership between Wyre Council, Fylde Council, Fylde Coast CCG and Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde CVS.
Projects and organisations providing support to those affected by the pandemic are encouraged to apply, but hurry, the closing date is 5pm, Monday 1 February. > Further information and to apply.
