GOOD News: 29th April

We’ve opened the Community Information Centre at Affinity Outlet - thank you to the many visitors and partner organisations who have been in to see us already and find out what's happening to support health and wellbeing.

The centre is initially open Tuesdays and Fridays, 10am to 4pm with extra days and events now being planned.

Macmillan Cancer Care will be offering a drop-in advice service every Tuesday, on Friday 30th April it’s the Fleetwood Prince's Trust team and we’re working with Affinity to support safe, outdoor singing with Harmony & Health soon. Please do call in if you are shopping at Affinity, we’re the first unit on the left after Claires and we encourage organisations to send information for us to share and to discuss using the centre for community engagement.

If you are interested in the Prince's Trust but can’t make it along to Affinity, places are available for 16-25 year-olds on the next free 12 week course which includes taking part in a community challenge, a work placement, gaining new skills and making new friends.

To find out more about the opportunities with the Prince's Trust telephone Ashleigh Unsworth (07796 147383), send an email to PTFleetwood@lancsfirerescue.org.uk

Very positive numbers in the news this week about the effectiveness of the COVID vaccination program, helping to keep us all safe and well.

It wouldn't be possible without the care and dedication of the staff administering the jabs and the volunteers giving their time to support the vaccination centres.

Lancashire Volunteer Partnership is coordinating the recruitment of COVID Centre Marshals across the County. If you are interested in offering your support please visit the LVP website, tel 01772 416417 or email lvp@lancashire.gov.uk

Government advice is for us all to get tested twice a week to stop the spread of the COVID virus, even if we do not have any symptoms.

The tests are quick and easy to do at home with results in 30 minutes and there are several places you can pick up a box of free test kits locally including pharmacies and Fleetwood Library. For a map of all the locations to collect kits enter your postcode on the NHS website.

Best wishes to all the staff and members at YMCA Fylde Coast as they reopen the pool and facilities in Fleetwood this weekend.

A reminder that membership offers are available until the end of May and it’s hugely important that the venue is used and supported now by the community. If you’re going along for a swim this weekend or soon, we hope you have a great time and a special shout out to the Wyre Flounders who have their first session for over a year. Many local residents have been enjoying open-water swimming and the newly formed Fleetwood Community Tri Hub is welcoming new members of all ages, from beginners to experienced athletes.

They meet on Tuesday evenings for a community run, enter teams into competitions and will be holding regular events as we ease out of lockdown.

The Hub is also supporting the Healthier Heroes charity for ex-service personnel and Healthier Fleetwood is delighted to have made a contribution to the group’s set up costs. To find out more and get involved see the Fleetwood Community Tri Hub page on Facebook or email fleetwoodtriclub@gmail.com Until the next time take care, stay safe and enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend.
