GOOD News: 27th May
As we look ahead to the Bank Holiday weekend and the Half Term holidays, we're pleased to share a few things you may, or may not have heard about ... A new outdoor community space is being proposed for land on Custom House Lane in Fleetwood - a great location close to Fleetwood Museum, Fleetwood Market and Fleetwood Library. The suggested ideas for the site include seating areas, additional trees and perhaps a space to host small events, all adding to the feel-good factor for the local community.
There are 3 possible design options - feedback from residents is very welcome.
Meanwhile across at Fleetwood Market the new studio spaces are encouraging local creatives to start businesses and host classes.
Sessions are starting soon for residents who want to learn new skills, already enjoy art or would like to boost their confidence and wellbeing. Days and times vary, some courses are in the evening and there may be a fee too.
Best place for information is the Market House Studio page on Facebook or contact the studio coordinator Adrian on Adrian.Pritchard@wyre.gov.uk / 07949 029569 / 01253 887651.
There’s a bumper line-up of Great Outdoors events for June across Wyre.
As well as the Health Walks and Health Rides which restarted a few weeks ago, there are now conservation days and family activities for the Half Term holidays, including plenty of locations in Fleetwood. > See the Events calendar on the Wyre Council website
Copies of the events program are also available from the community information centre at Affinity Outlet.
It’s Volunteers Week 2021 from the 1st to the 7th June and we'd love to support the great work of local groups and charities.
Volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved in your community. As well as helping others you also benefit from a sense of pride and from seeing the difference your efforts make to other people. Whether it be an hour or two in a shop, assisting with an activity or taking on an admin role, it's always rewarding.
If you are recruiting for volunteers please send us any posters or artwork you have and we can share it across our social media and website, on display at Affinity and in next week’s Good News.
Dates have been confirmed for the ‘Inside Out’ Exhibition at the former Fleetwood hospital.
This is a collection of all things creative, made by local residents, right here in Fleetwood during the lockdown and in recent months.
The exhibition will run from 22 June to 18 July at the hospital and full details will be announced soon and updated on the Left Coast website.
Also at the hospital, The Fleetwood Trust has begun preparing space for their latest tenants, Regenda Homes and the Learning Foundry.
These organisations will be moving into 5,000 sq ft on the Ground and First floors to offer their existing services to the community and exciting new employment and training opportunities, including apprenticeships, traineeships and courses for adults throughout Fleetwood.
The Fleetwood Trust’s plans to create a community hub at the hospital continue to progress following a successful planning application earlier in the year.
One last group to mention … the wonderfully named Jolly Joggers! This ladies only-group are starting a new Fleetwood couch to 5k session. This will be on Thursday evenings from 6.15pm for 10 weeks and there is a fee for the course with a Run Together Run leader. Follow the Jolly Joggers Fylde Coast on Facebook to get involved or contact us at Healthier Fleetwood and we can put you in touch. Until the next time, take care ...
