GOOD NEWS - 20th November

After all the excitement of last week, there's GOOD NEWS from more local groups and organisations celebrating success!

Fleetwood Community Triathlon Hub was formed during the pandemic as a free club for everyone to enjoy. On Friday they received the award for Community Engagement from Active Lancashire. One of the founders, Adam Diver, said, "I am so proud of what we have achieved, the physical and mental health benefits of being involved. It is a small club but what makes it big is the Community!"

Adam has asked us to display their certificate at the Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre, which we are happy to do alongside our own collection of trophies and awards accepted on behalf of the Fleetwood Community.

Congratulations also to everyone from The Bay: A Blueprint For Recovery, another winner with Active Lancashire.

The Fleetwood Trust is also celebrating acknowledgement of the great work going on at The Hub, the town's former hospital.

In the last week, builders Krol Corlett picked up the Social Impact Award from Lancashire Insider Property. The judging panel said, "The passion in this project shone through the entry, which saw the re-use of a healthcare building. The initiative has not only bolstered local employment, it's creating a lasting positive impact on the wellbeing and vitality of the area.

If you are looking for a Christmas present idea for a Fleetwood Town fan, there's a new book out they will certainly enjoy.

PONDY: Captain, Leader & Legend tells the story of Nathan Pond, who played for the Club between 2003 and 2018, just short of 500 appearances. His career took in seven levels of the game as the Cod Army moved up from non-League to League One - that is (or at least was) an official Guinness Record. The book has been written in collaboration with David Mitchell and we understand copies will be available soon from the Fleetwood Town Club Shop for £9.99.

This weekend Wyre Council is offering the chance to pick up a FREE tree to plant at home or in a community space.

This marks the start of National Tree Week, and the launch of the Council's new climate change strategy and action plan. The event is at Wyre Estuary Country Park on Saturday 23rd November, 10am to 1pm and you do need to pre-register.

UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

There's several Christmas events this weekend, please support them if you can.

Our neighbours, St Peter's Church have their Festive Fayre on Saturday 23rd from 10.30am to 1pm. Enjoy the stalls, prize raffle and tombola plus there's cakes and light lunches.

In another part of town, Larkholme Community Centre Christmas Fayre is also Saturday, 10.30am to 1pm.

Santa will be saying hello from 11am to 12 noon and refreshments will be on sale.

Completing a choice of Saturday events ... there's loads happening from 2pm at Fleetwood Spiritualist Church on Oak Street ... stalls offering books, CDs, bric-a-brac, children's toys & games, homemade cakes and more!

Fleetwood Youth Hub hosts a FREE workshop and talk for young people and their parent/carers on the issues around knife crime, 5pm on Monday 25th November. The workshop is delivered by anti-knife crime advocate Byron from The JJ Effect and focuses on the issues surrounding knife crime, such as social media, fashion and music. Byron shares how innocently it all begins and where it can end. This isn't about gang culture, it's about young people becoming involved in situations and recognising it as early as possible. The session is suitable for secondary school-age children 11+ and up to 25 years and supported by Fleetwood Town Community Trust and Connectiverse. Registration is essential and parent/carers must complete the form within registration for young people to attend.

It's a little over a week until this year's Fleetwood Festive Lights Lantern Parade and Switch On Concert.

Wyre Council has announced FREE PARKING on Saturday 30th November in Custom House Lane and Albert Street carparks from 2pm. Do some shopping, have something to eat or drink then join in the parade along Lord Street and up to Marine Hall for the big Switch On!

WHAT'S ON AT THE HEALTHIER FLEETWOOD CENTRE

One of our lovely volunteers Sam, loves spending time creating fantastic diamond art pictures and she's hosting a FREE Christmas-themed drop-in. Join her on Tuesday 26th November from 1pm to around 2.30pm to make a tree decoration or a coaster. It's suitable for all levels of experience, Sam can help any beginners. Materials are provided and you can take your work home after the session. There's no pre-booking required, turn up and have fun!

The Walnut Tree are with us on Friday 29th for their monthly drop-in. Chat with Anne and John about the challenges and opportunities of living with or caring for somebody with dementia. It's friendly and honest lived-experience advice and signposting to support. No need to book, call in from 11am to 1pm.

Volunteers Sam & Kath always offer a warm welcome but the Information Centre isn't the warmest venue in Town at the moment. We do have some issues with the heating so bear with us while we look at the options. Of course, the kettle is always on and you can enjoy a brew, a chat and a chance to browse the information on 150 groups, activities and events in and around Fleetwood.

Please keep sending in all your GOOD NEWS news to share with the community.

Until the next time, take care.
