GOOD NEWS - 21st December

It's the shortest day of the year, Christmas is just around the corner and the local community is looking ahead so there's GOOD NEWS to share ...

Due to the growth of the organisation, Fleetwood Town Community Trust are recruiting for a Health & Wellbeing Coordinator to lead on a variety of new and exciting initiatives with the focus of improving physical and mental health for residents across the district. The successful candidate will engage with audiences identified with programme objectives aligned towards the aim of developing stronger, healthier more active communities.

West Fleetwood Computer Clinic has been helping the community enjoy the educational and wellbeing benefits of access to the internet for 9 years.

They refurbish and repurpose donated digital devices and offer them to local residents. They have also passed on many devices to school-age children, supporting their opportunities to study and improve their prospects for the future. If you are having problems with your own device or need tips about getting online, data management and security, they also offer straightforward, practical advice. Dates for their FREE 2024 drop-in sessions at Rossall Tavern have now been announced.

Our thanks to Mount View Practice for offering us some space on the ground floor of the Health & Wellbeing Centre, Dock Street.

Although we can't display everything from our former base at Affinity, it's a great opportunity to share the groups, activities and events available to support local residents. The area will be updated regularly with new new information and we'll be hosting some drop-in sessions there next year as well as continuing the sessions at Fleetwood Library. The new area is in addition to other displays in the surgeries including the information for children and young people. Look out for announcements of all the venues you can find us for a chat and how we'll be working with the other Fleetwood surgeries in 2024.

The Onward Community Fund is working with local groups and projects and can provide up to £2,500 towards costs.

This year’s fund is looking for projects that aim to support people and communities facing increased challenges as a direct result of the cost-of-living crisis. Themes involve supporting employment, training, volunteering; improving access to and use of greenspace; food resilience and digital skills and support offers. > Find out more at The Onward Community Fund website

Good luck to the team at Fleetwood Library in the Lancashire Libraries Christmas Jumper competition.

As we write Fleetwood has reached the semi-final for their fun, Whoville-themed tops and costumes and they need your support to take the top prize. If you are on X please follow @LancsLibraries to vote

Pupils from Fleetwood's primary schools have been out and about in the local community again over the last week ...

35 children from Larkholme Primary entertained residents at Fleetwood Hall Care Home with a festive concert, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone taking part and in the audience.

Sixth-formers from Rossall School called into The Pantry to deliver the generous donations they had collected - The Pantry expects to be helping up to 250 families.

And following their Santa's Sleigh tour, Fleetwood Rotary have been distributing vouchers to the local primary schools, supporting deserving pupils and families.

There's still a couple more huge community events for the festive season ...

The Christmas Eve Carols Singalong is the idea of local residents, Maxine, Liz, Shelley, Sarah & Jill.

Join family, friends and neighbours from 3.30pm to 5pm at Fisherman's Walk for festive favourites, some refreshments and a great way to see in Christmas.

It's the third year for the Christmas Day Dinner organised by Heather, Christine, Gillian and their friends.

The meal brings together residents who might be alone and is also a chance to thank others who work in the community. Offers to help as volunteers are welcome.

Thank you to everyone who has given their time to support others this Christmas.

There are several Facebook and X links above - if you're not on social media and would like more information of anything listed, email listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk and we can put you in touch with the group or event organisers.

There's no bulletin during the holidays, the next one will be on Thursday 4th January but do keep sending in your GOOD NEWS to share with the community.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you all again in 2024!
