GOOD NEWS - 19th March
We start with Good News that improvements to YMCA Fleetwood Leisure Centre will continue following successful bids by Wyre Council.
The Government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund nationally provided a total of £80m to local authorities in England as a support package for public leisure facilities with swimming pools. Initial phases of the funding have allowed Wyre Council to offset rising costs and make energy efficiencies for the long term. The latest phase of funding has been used to add new facilities and opportunities to the offer at YMCA Fleetwood.
Members can now enjoy a purpose-built dance studio, designed to host a variety of classes suitable for all ages and abilities and the current group fitness classes. The new studio received around £35,000 from the government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Additionally, YMCA will be enhancing the group fitness profile by introducing a new virtual programme of classes, supporting physical activity for Fleetwood and the surrounding community.

Moving just a little further along the Promenade ... Wyre Council is opening a new bike workshop at Marine Hall, as part of their 'recycling' programme.
The donated bikes will be repaired and given to people in the community to improve their health, wellbeing and circumstances. If you have any skills in mechanics or just like tinkering with bikes, could you volunteer your time to help this community project? The workshop will be ready to open in April - volunteers will gain new knowledge and skills, meet like-minded people and help those in need.
Today, Wednesday 19th March, is Social Prescribing Day - celebrating healthcare professionals and the community, working together to improve wellbeing.
Healthier Fleetwood is proud to have piloted the social prescribing pathway for the Town in 2017. Then and now, it can only happen thanks to the amazing network of partners from the NHS, local authorities, community organisations and in particular the voluntary sector. Whether it be joining a knit & natter, painting, playing a sport, gardening, singing, dancing, meeting for a brew or any one of the dozens of opportunities across Fleetwood, the positive impact of trying something new and connecting with others is undeniable.
Since 2019 social prescribing has been led by a caring team at Fleetwood Primary Care Network supporting individuals to find activities they enjoy, and encouraging them to take more control of their health. The potential results are summed up by Fleetwood resident, the wonderful Linda, in a video made for the National Academy for Social Prescribing ... > watch online here
