GOOD NEWS - 12th March
We always try to share the positive aspects of health and wellbeing, the benefits of taking care of your mind and body rather than the negative implications if you don't and quitting smoking is a great example.

At last week's Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting we heard from many residents sharing Good News about their groups and events in the local community.
Our chair of residents Pauline said how the passion for what they do shone through their words and it was inspiring to see how they'd grown in self-confidence. For some, speaking in public can be daunting, even when it's to a room full of your friends and neighbours. Pauline has a great deal of experience and knowledge in this area, and she'd love to support others become more assured and relaxed.
If you represent a voluntary/not-for-profit/charitable group based in Fleetwood and would like to learn some tips and techniques for public speaking, Pauline has kindly offered to help. If you'd like to know more please email listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk with your contact details and why you'd like to be involved.
We'll be in touch when we have an idea of the numbers and type of support people are interested in.
Following on from their successful workshop for International Women's Day, the volunteers of Behind Closed Doors have some more fantastic news!
They say, "We had an emotional, insightful IWD with our informal event at Strive and a private session with our members, celebrating growth and a discussion how survivors believe action should be taken to provide better support."
And next week sees the opening of the group's new support hub in Fleetwood. The community is invited to look around and meet the team from 12.30pm on Tuesday 18th March, Adelaide Street opposite the Fleetwood Market entrance.
Bookings for Wyre Council's Easter Holiday Activity and Food clubs open this week.
Funded by the Department for Education, holiday club places are available free to children and young people who receive benefits-related free school meals in the summer, Easter and Christmas holidays. There are also paid-for places available for families that are not eligible to attend for free. If your child is eligible, you should receive a text or email on the 14th of March at 7am with your code and instructions about how to book. Please note the booking system has changed so allow yourself some extra time to familiarise yourself with the new procedure.
Keep your eyes open around Fleetwood for Wombles!
The Mount Ward Wombles are helping to keep the town tidy, holding their first volunteering event last weekend. There's now several opportunities for local residents to get involved ... Jimi is leading the new group, Jayne coordinates the Larkholme Wombles and the green project at Eden Gardens, across the road from Westview Community Association.
Fleetwood In Bloom will be looking at the many planters and flower beds around the Town and it's also thanks to volunteers from all these groups that the space outside the new Banking Hub was clean and tidy for last week's launch event.
The facility was officially opened on Friday in the former Senior Citizens Hall on Warrenhurst Road, close to Fisherman's Walk tram stop. Operators Cash Access UK have worked with Fleetwood Town Council and Lorraine Beavers MP to provide this service for local residents and businesses.
The Fleetwood Art Club is ticking along nicely now, a month after it started.
Group leaders Joe and Kaitlin have been sharing their experience and tips for painting and sketching in a variety of materials ... the pencil and charcoal week produced some great work. Now the group is settled in, there's no need to pre-book places - you can turn up on the day, 2pm on Saturdays, Fleetwood Library on the First Floor.
Everything you need is provided, a small donation is appreciated to cover the cost of the materials. There's also a brew available for that well-earned break.
Fleetwood Gym Boxing Club has been celebrating several successes recently ...
... including Tom who has been selected to represent the North West at an International tournament in Sweden next month, and Jessie & Anna for both completing and passing their England Boxing Level 1 coaching courses.
Fleetwood's own Jane Couch MBE played a role in last weekend's women's World Title fight at The Albert Hall.
Jane was the first woman to be licensed as a professional fighter in the UK and she had the honour of carrying out the belts for Natasha Jonas on Saturday.
Another champion was in Fleetwood recently ... Joe Clarke, British slalom canoeist who won Gold at the Rio Olympics and Silver at Paris 2024.
Joe shared with the children of St Wulstan's & St Edmund's Catholic Academy his inspiring journey in the sport, including the challenges he faced along the way to success. Each child had the opportunity to touch or hold a real Olympic medal, which was an unforgettable moment! His final message was powerful: "Dedication and hard work lead to success."
Everyone at the school wished Joe the best of luck in his aspirations to compete at Los Angeles 2028!
