GOOD NEWS - 26th February

We wouldn't normally start a bulletin with financial news however there is an important event next week that affects local residents and businesses.

Cash Access UK is a not-for-profit company funded by the major banks, providing cash and basic banking services in communities across the UK, such as banking hubs and deposit services ... and they are coming to Fleetwood.

The new shared-banking hub will offer cash and everyday banking services such as cash withdrawals, depositing cash and cheques and paying utility bills, as well as a community banker service, so you can speak to your own bank about more complicated matters on specific days.

There's an Information drop-in to hear more about the new hub ...

It's on Friday 7 March, from 10am to 1pm at the former Senior Citizens Hall, Warrenhurst Road, Fleetwood - next to Fisherman's Walk tram stop.

2025 marks the 100th anniversary of Fleetwood Rotary Club and ahead of a year of celebrations, a new sign has been placed close to The North Euston Hotel.

Fleetwood Rotary say, "It was January 1925 when a small group of Fleetwood citizens, led by County Councillor and JP, George Murray Robertson, gathered in Hollingsworth’s Café on Lord Street for the first Club Council meeting of Fleetwood Rotary."

"A century of service to the people of Fleetwood has followed, and we, the current members of Fleetwood Rotary, are deeply grateful for the service of those who went before us, and for the continuous support and generosity of the people of Fleetwood, without either of which, Fleetwood Rotary would not have survived to this day."

The Centenary Year officially runs from the 1st July 2025 to the 30th June 2026 and Fleetwood Rotary are planning some fantastic community events ... to be announced!

The team at Wyre Youth Zone provide support for young people across the region including the Youth Council, a forum for discussions and community projects.

They are organising an appeal to combat Poverty Hygiene and help Fleetwood's younger residents.

Donations are very welcome of toiletries, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shavers, shampoo and period products.

If you can help with a donation ...

> Tel: Nina 07709 717047

Some surveys and opportunities we've been asked to pass on to the community:

Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board is asking women for their thoughts on dedicated Health Hubs located in the community. These might be situated in GP surgeries or other accessible venues.

Please note the survey closes on 28th February, further opportunities to share your views will be announced soon.

The RNIB are also conducting a survey covering areas which form part of a new ten-year strategy - eye health, skills & tools for modern life, mobility, finance, employment, inclusion, education, habitation, leisure, relationships, social networks and shaping society.

> The survey is online here, takes about 20 minutes and is open until 31st March.

For additional information about this survey please email Nicola at RNIB

MAC Clinical Research is the UK’s leading clinical trials organisation.

Based in Bispham they are inviting Fleetwood residents to take part in trials for a range of conditions including dementia and COPD and Pauline, our chair of residents is familiar with their work ...

"I have personal experience of the MAC clinical research organisation with two members of my family. They offer a free assessment of cognitive ability – basically testing memory function. Their premises are set in Bispham and appointments usually last around an hour. There is a thorough investigation of people with memory concerns and recommendations as to the best action to be taken. If you, or a member of your family has concerns over their memory, it is definitely worth getting in touch for an assessment."

This won't be for everyone but if you'd like to know more about the opportunities ...

Our best wishes to the amazing Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs, as they reopen for the season from this Saturday.

Weather permitting, and it's looking OK at the moment, visitors will be able to book a FREE chair and enjoy the beach again from 1st March.

The wonderful volunteers have been hard a work in recent weeks preparing the equipment at The Wheelbase, next to the Central Promenade Cafe. With 10 chairs to choose from, a range of accessories, and the care and advice of the team it's all about making memories.

Opening times at weekends are 10.30am - 4.30pm (last booking 3.30pm), hours on other days will vary. For all bookings please call the Freephone 03000 111 003.

Over 1,000 visitors have been able to get on to Fleetwood's beautiful beach with their friends and family, thanks to this fantastic FREE service ... something we can be very proud of as a community. Thank you to everyone involved.

And with March just around the corner, there's new event listings for the month.

Fleetwood Library is always busy with something on every day ... arts & crafts, music, family support, and friendship groups. The venue also offers visitors free hot drinks during March.

Wyre's Great Outdoors is walk & talks. conservation events and beach cleans, gardening clubs and more across Fleetwood and further afield.

There's printed copies of these listings to pick up from our Information Centre at The HUB Fleetwood ... the new space is starting to take shape.

We've been updating all the posters and leaflets on display and still have room for more. If you organise a community group or event in an FY7 postcode, please do get in touch to check we have your up-to-date details and marketing. If you don't have a poster or leaflet, we might be able to help. Please email listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk

And we've found a good home for the sofa and armchair from the Lord Street premises, kindly donated by BM Furniture. It's just outside our Information Centre, supporting The Fleetwood Trust to create a quiet space in memory of Frank Heald, the inspiration behind The HUB, who sadly passed away last year.

On the opposite wall is the fantastic display of images by local resident and talented photographer Jess ... we'll be refreshing these in the weeks and months ahead.
