GOOD NEWS - 17th August
Hello everyone and hope you are well. As always we're delighted to share just a snapshot of the great things about living and working in the Fleetwood community, brought to you by many wonderful individuals, groups and organisations. Enjoy!
Rick Clement is a regular contributor to the Good News and later today he will be starting a 24-hour sponsored gym workout challenge for a great cause.
He's hoping to raise up to £1,000 which will cover the cost of free PSA Blood tests detecting Prostate Cancer in men, helping to prevent long-term illness or worse. You can read more about this and make a donation to support Rick's challenge by visiting his Go Fund Me Page here.
The tests will be available for men on 16th September, at the Fleetwood Town home game with Oxford City.
It's a partnership between the football club, Town's CommunityTrust, Fleetwood Flyers walking football club and also the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal. To book a free test, register at the website here and then choose a time slot.
With money tight, managing your personal and household budgets is vital.
HMRC is looking for partnerships with voluntary groups and community organisations, to help people understand and comply with their tax obligations and claiming their entitlements. Funding is available of between £30,000 and £600,000 per year (linked to turnover) for the partner to deliver advice and support to their local audience including those who may be digitally excluded. Applications by prospective partners for this funding opportunity are closing soon, on August 21st, and full details are available on the Gov.uk website.
Lancashire Mind delivers a range of mental health support across the County and they'd like your help.
The charity wants to understand the existing work of Voluntary, Charity, Faith, and Social Enterprise organisations, and identify areas for new partnerships. Contributions to a survey are appreciated
Fleetwood Wellbeing Way celebrates 3 years since it was formed by residents with support from Lancashire Mind.
That's dozens of fun-for-all-the-family challenges based around the 5 Ways of Wellbeing and many great ideas like the free 'flower bombs' in collaboration with Fleetwood In Bloom - you can find one now along the Esplanade and Promenade gardens to take home and plant. Thank you to Debby, Victoria, Elaine and Diane for all they do to make Fleetwood a healthier and happier place to live and visit.
Loads of community events to enjoy in the weeks ahead, here's a few ...
It's the RNLI Fleetwood Open Day from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 19th August.
Rearranged from earlier in the Summer due to bad weather, this is an opportunity to meet the crew of volunteers, watch a sail past and displays, enjoy live music and entertainment, and also have a go at the sandcastle-making competition. There's a prize raffle and other games, all the funds raised will support this amazing service and their life-saving work along our coastline.
And pop along to Fleetwood Market's Family Fun Day, also on Saturday.
Traditional 'Punch & Judy' shows, balloon art, a miniature fairground organ will provide nostalgic, seaside music, sit in a giant deckchair for a photo opportunity with a difference and enjoy all of the FREE children's craft activities. Ride up and down Victoria Street on a replica double-decker bus and of course, browse and shop at all of stalls offering clothes, gifts, books, toys and much more!
Wyre Council hosts a FREE children’s arts and crafts session at Wyre Estuary Country Park on Tuesday 22nd August.
The 2-hour session is from 10am – 12pm for children aged 7-11. Lots of fun to be had with nature-inspired crafts and take home whatever you make. > More on the Wyre Council website here.
Affinity Lancashire Shopping Outlet presents their second 'Artisan Street' event on Bank Holiday Monday, 28th August from 10am to 5pm.
There will be a wide range of local independent traders selling a whole host of products including arts and crafts, delicious foodie treats, gifts and more. It's also Affinity's 'Monster Takeover' that weekend so there'll be plenty going on for the whole family ... the FREE Monster Mash Silent Disco with face painting and monster caricatures.
We'll be supporting the Artisan Street event by opening the Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre for a Card-Making Workshop with Alison from 11am to 2pm.
Learn techniques and pick up tips while you have fun, all the materials are provided and you can take away your finished work. You will need to allow at least an hour but there's no need to pre-book. This is for adults only (18 yrs+) and a £3pp charge will apply on the day to cover the cost of the materials.
On A Level results day we hope that everyone has received the grades they want and deserve and it's the next step on their exciting journey. If things haven't quite gone the way they wanted, support is available ... you can bounce back!
