Some fabulous GOOD NEWS to start this bulletin ... Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs has been awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Service 2024.

This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE. Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs is one of 281 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. Representatives of the charity will receive the award crystal and certificate from Mrs. Amanda Parker JP, Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire and two of the wonderful volunteers will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in 2025.

Michael Gray, Chair of Trustees & founder of Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs said ...

“The Trustees are delighted that their hard work and the dedication and devotion of our volunteers has been recognised at the highest level. This honour demonstrates what can be achieved and recognises the leading part our town has played in providing this valuable service.”

Thank you to everyone who picked up a hand-made poppy from us last week.

Local resident Janet kindly created them and over £50 was raised, this has now been donated online to support the official Royal British Legion appeal.

This week is a year since the launch of Fleetwood's Little Book of Hope.

Local resident and mental health professional Liz Loftus, worked with poet Nathan Parker and creative artist Tina Dempsey to put together the publication, inspired by thoughts, memories and hopes from members of the Fleetwood community. The initial print run was a huge hit and the stock ran out within days so a reprint soon followed. If you've missed out so far, we've some copies of 'The Little Book' available from the Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre, at 1-7 Lord Street, opposite St Peter's Church.

Pop in on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 3pm to pick one up - they are free but a donation is appreciated, funds will be used for local mental health projects.
