GOOD NEWS - 11th January

Last year we introduced 'Fleetwood's Compassionate Community', part of a wider initiative being rolled out across the Fylde Coast by staff from Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and from Trinity Hospice.

This is empowering community leaders to hold important conversations about death and dying with confidence. A series of workshops will discuss and encourage the skills, knowledge and confidence to navigate through planning for death, dealing with death and coping with a bereavement.

Organisations and community groups based in Fleetwood are invited to attend a free workshop at Fleetwood Library on Monday 29th January from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The intention is that attendees can arrange follow-up sessions for their colleagues, clients and volunteers to expand the Compassionate Community.

If you would like to reserve places at the workshop or be put in touch with the team delivering the sessions to make your own arrangements, please email us on listening@healthiefleetwood.co.uk

One of the partners we loved to welcome into our former Information Centre at Affinity Lancashire was Autism Initiatives and there's an opportunity to join this terrific organisation.

There's a recruitment day coming up to share more about a number of paid roles for the Fleetwood, the Fylde Coast and across Lancashire. Pop along to the Solaris Centre, South Promenade Blackpool on Wednesday 17th January from 10am to 2pm to meet the team and find out more.

Last year a Fleetwood resident, the wonderful Linda, shared her story in a video from the National Academy for Social Prescribing, now it's available as a podcast.

Supported by Wendy, one of the Fleetwood social prescribing link workers, Linda joined the Walks & Talk event with Fleetwood Town Community Trust and has enjoyed the benefits of the exercise and the connection with other people.

Coastal Radio DAB want to know your suggestions for the local businesses and community groups who deserve recognition.

Make your nominations in a wide range of categories including health & wellbeing, non-profit organisations and employer of the year. There's already been an amazing response and the deadline is Sunday 4th February.

Great to hear about two more chances to dance in and around Fleetwood ...

Thank you to Bethany for letting us know about a new activity for February ...

Bethany is a 3rd year student at UCLAN studying dance performance and teaching and has worked with LPM Dance. To support her dissertation she will be hosting five, FREE, gentle dance sessions for people aged 50+, taking part standing or seated. Sessions will be Wednesdays from 2pm to 3.30pm at the Fleetwood Methodist Church, starting 21st February. There's also free tea and biscuits and an opportunity to chat after the session - Bethany would appreciate feedback from the group as part of her studies.

If you'd like to know more please telephone her on 07717 943495.

After a relatively mild winter so far, the temperatures have dropped in the last week so a reminder of the Warm Hubs available in Fleetwood.

Many venues are offering hot drinks, maybe snacks and activities to local residents - helping to save a little on costs at home and also to enjoy the benefit of other people's company.

Did you see Marine Hall, Fleetwood on the TV this week?

An episode of Dickinson's Real Deal filmed last year has been screened on ITV with some stunning aerials views of the venue and of course shots taken in the beautiful Ballroom.

And a reminder there's an event at Marine Hall this Sunday, 14th January.

Joyfest is a FREE family fun day filled with arts & crafts, entertainment and more from 11am to 4pm, the last hour is a musical finale. Healthier Fleetwood will be there, please come and say hello!
