Advent Calendar Day 23

As we get closer to the end of the year, we want to look ahead on our Advent Calendar this morning.

The vision of a hub within the former Fleetwood Hospital bringing together some of the services and groups in the community is now well underway.

NHS Outpatients and specialist teams continue to work from the Pharos Street end of the building, maintaining a link of delivering healthcare from the site going back over 125 years.

They were joined this year by Regenda Homes who relocated their offices to the building, Counselling in the Community Charity also have a base there and of course, The Pantry has been supporting residents with a foodbank service for around 18 months.

Fleetwood Youth Hub moved into their new facility at the end of the Summer to provide employment support, training and life-skills for 18 to 24 year olds.

At the Bold Street end of the building Blackpool and The Fylde College have 2 classrooms for adult education courses including English and Maths, Blackpool Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service will open their Information & Support Centre and in the early weeks of 2023 to welcome individuals and their families coping with cancer.

There's also a brand new Changing Places facility, accessible from Bold Street and exciting plans for how to use the remaining spaces.

Healthier Fleetwood will be joining the community hub sometime next year too. No date is set yet and for now we are delighted to remain at Affinity Lancashire Outlet Shopping - our thanks to everyone at Affinity for their continued support.

All this is happening under the guidance of the building's owners Fleetwood Trust who have taken what was an unused and largely derelict building and given it new life. Their vision is to offer the community something new and something that complements the other venues and opportunities across the Town ... 2023 promises to be an exciting year!

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
